The Casa Fund Delegation gives protagonism to quilombola leaders, defenders and young people who participate in the most important conference on climate change<\/i><\/p>\n

The Casa Socio-Environmental Fund has arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and will participate in the important discussions of the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP), an event held by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Casa Fund delegation will have 13 people and is made up of team members, quilombola leaders, defenders and young black people, who participate with the aim of bringing their demands and perspectives to the conference tables. The composition of the delegation is in line with Casa Fund’s mission of providing protagonism and giving voice to strategic groups.<\/p>\n

The Casa Fund delegation includes: Selma dos Santos Dealdina (National Coordination for the Articulation of Rural Black Quilombola Communities \u2013 CONAQ), Vercilene Francisco Dias (CONAQ), Maryellen Cris\u00f3stomo de Almeida (CONAQ), Joci Aguiar (GTA Network\/Climate Observatory), Joilson Costa (Front for a New Energy Policy for Brazil), Cristina Orpheo (Casa Fund), Maria Am\u00e1lia Souza (Casa Fund), Claudia Gibeli (Casa Fund), Ma\u00edra Lacerda (Casa Fund), Vanessa Ourique Purper (Casa Fund), Regilon Matos (Casa Fund), Rubens Harry Born (Casa Fund\/Esquel\/IDEC) and Eduardo Franco (Fundaci\u00f3n Semilla – Bolivia).<\/p>\n

During the last few months, Casa Fund has held several training and capacitation meetings for its staff and partners, so that everyone can have a better understanding of the importance and complexity of the discussions that are held during the COP. In addition, participation strategies were prepared and discussions to be carried out during the event were selected.<\/p>\n

One of the many urgent issues to be addressed is the importance of funding traditional peoples and community-based organizations in the face of the climate emergency. We know that forest peoples already carry out numerous initiatives that contribute to reducing the impacts of climate change, but this work needs to be more recognized. We want to influence funders and the field of philanthropy to pay more attention to the role of local and traditional communities in restoring and preserving life on the Planet.<\/p>\n

Our delegation will also defend the relevance of the local global socio-environmental financing systems of the global South, especially through the recently launched Alianza Socioambiental Fondos del Sur.<\/p>\n

In conjunction with its participation in COP27, Casa Fund launches the publication Guardians of the Forests – Financing for Climate Resilience<\/a><\/span>, which can now be accessed in English and will soon also be available in Portuguese.<\/p>\n

The publication brings reflections and lessons learned by Casa Socio-Environmental Fund<\/span> in direct support to local and traditional organizations and how this support is connected to important strategies for preserving standing forests and maintaining the climate.<\/p>\n
