Alliance Among Funds – Unique and innovative initiative
The Alliance Among Funds – arising from community mobilization for racial, social and environmental justice – proposes a new way of acting in the philanthropy ecosystem in Brazil, collaborative philanthropy for social justice.
Comprised of the Baobá Fund for Racial Equity, the Brazil Human Rights Fund and the Casa Socio-Environmetal Fund, the Alliance Among Funds aims to promote greater direct funding for indigenous peoples, quilombola communities and other traditional peoples most vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic .
Together, the Funds will make an initial contribution of R$ 2.5 million, announced through different Calls for Proposals, focused on three priority areas: 1) defense of rights; 2) community resilience and the economic sustainability of families; and 3) food sovereignty of the less favored populations in the fight against the pandemic.
How the Alliance came about
The recognition of the role and prominence of traditional, indigenous peoples and community-based organizations in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic boosted the three Funds, at first individually, to develop emergency calls to support the actions of groups, organizations and/or individuals in situations of greater vulnerability.
The Alliance emerges as a strategic and innovative action in the course of exchanges and dialogues between the Funds about the obstacles and lessons learned in strengthening the agenda for social justice during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This pioneering initiative is also established on the basis of strong historical relationships between each fund and community-based organizations in their traditional areas of work. And it now intends to aim beyond this pandemic scenario to support resilience and recovery of communities’ autonomy, based on new pillars that result from this experience.
The Calls for Proposals will be launched simultaneously by the three Funds on September 9th. We will soon announce the details on this site.
