When strength and kindness meet, Mother Earth overflows harmony

CASA Socio-Environmental Fund has been working in South America for more than 13 years, financing small projects and boosting the capacity of socio-environmental initiatives of NGOs and community groups. Since 2016, we are part of the Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action – which uses the acronym GAGGA.

This Alliance is a result of collective efforts of three organizations – Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres (FCAM) from Nicaragua, MamaCash and BothENDS from the Netherlands, and aims to empower women’s and social-environmental justice groups in 30 countries. For five years – from 2016 to 2020, the goal is to facilitate solutions to gender issues such as access to water, food and a clean, healthy and safe environment. Through strengthening and consolidating a common agenda, different actors are articulated to carry out this initiative.

Women in defense of the environment

CASA Fund is the only socio-environmental fund from South America that is part of GAGGA. Our job is to support groups and movements in Bolivia and Paraguay. Since 2016, we have already supported 87 projects in different regions in both countries. We are witness to the creativity and determination of the groups that have received the support of the Alliance over these three years. Our grantees represent the union of the necessary vigor for the maintenance of life on the Planet and the kindness of those who do this work with love, sincerity and a lot of dedication. Our Mother Earth overflows harmony and responds with abundance when receiving care. It is from the earth that we sustain our physical and, why not, integral health.

After years of approaching the socio-environmental reality of the countries in which we operate, we realize the importance of women’s groups in the maintenance of ecosystems and the protection of waters, biomes, food, among other factors.

Systemic and connected support

The groups supported by the GAGGA Alliance work within a series of criteria. The topics range from income generation and solidarity economy, community gardening, food production, sanitation, native and rare seed banks, waste management, recycling, handicrafts and many others.

This is the strategy of CASA Fund: we work in a systemic way. We donate small amounts to interconnected initiatives, which generate enormous positive changes. Our strategic network of knowledge and contacts in the territories is our greatest asset. Through our network, we reach very remote groups, who would not have the opportunity to receive financial support in any other way. The distribution of several small grants for women’s groups and socio-environmental justice, when combined, allow for more harmony in the environments in which they are inserted.
