See you at COP 31!

The Casa Socio-Environmental Fund brings debates on direct funding, socio-bioeconomy, and youth leadership to the climate conference

The Casa Socio-Environmental Fund is taking part in the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 31) in Antalya, Türkiye, with an agenda built around three themes at the heart of the climate response: direct access to funding for local organizations and initiatives, stronger socio-bioeconomy, and young people’s participation in climate decisions and action.

One highlight is the launch of the publication Sociobiodiversity Web: A Portrait of the Economies of Traditional Peoples and Communities in Brazil on November 10, at an event in the Blue Zone, the conference’s official space. The session brings together the Casa Fund, the Amazon Working Group (GTA), the Alianza Socioambiental Fondos del Sur, and the Comuá Network to discuss how funding can strengthen sociobiodiversity enterprises and initiatives that pair nature conservation with income generation and local development.

The Casa Fund’s participation also includes two events focused on youth. They explore how young people contribute to climate action and why it matters to create the conditions for their proposals to move from debate to implementation. Both are part of an agenda that recognizes young people as agents of climate transformation and as essential participants in shaping policies and strategies for the future.

Throughout the conference, the Casa Fund will argue that tackling the climate crisis means taking into account those who are already working to protect sociobiodiversity and to build sustainable economic alternatives. That requires expanding access to funding, recognizing the diversity of local initiatives, and creating funding mechanisms that respond to the realities of the people who live and work in these contexts.

The Casa Fund’s COP 31 agenda connects the international climate debate to the experiences of community-based organizations, Traditional Peoples and communities, and youth. At a moment when the world is searching for ways to confront the climate crisis, the Fund brings to the conference its experience in direct funding at scale, showing how support for these initiatives can strengthen local economies and contribute to protecting sociobiodiversity. The goal is for these experiences to also inform decisions on how resources are allocated and how climate action is implemented.
