Casa Fund launches a new publication on the work of groups led by women in South America

The second publication of the series “Mighty Women Action by Groups in the Socio-Environmental Agenda” is now available. The first publication, launched in 2021, brought in detail the history of Casa Fund’s operations in South America and the first 5 years of partnership between Casa Fund and GAGGA Alliance, a global alliance that supports projects that have an intersection between environmental and gender justice. The new publication focuses on transformations and impacts, through analysis of data obtained from the 117 projects supported by Casa Fund in 4 countries – Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay – between 2016 and 2020.

According to Vanessa Purper, Casa Fund Program Manager who monitored the projects, “continuous and strategically interconnected support in the territories has great potential to bring benefits to social and community relations and strengthen the actions of women who work in defense of the environment and of life. This study brings data to prove it.”

The assessment demonstrates the potential for transforming communities based on women’s empowerment. The data indicate that there were potent impacts not only on personal and professional transformation and on the reverberation of women’s voices, but also on organizational changes and scope of actions of the organizations in which they work, and, finally, there were results in advocacy with the local authorities of the territories in which they operate.

For the women who participated in the supported initiatives, the main results achieved were the increase in the visibility of organizations in their communities and local authorities, strengthening of contact networks, interactions and alliances between groups, increase in leadership capacity and communication with other actors and the empowerment of organizations and their members, who were strengthened for the formulation and execution of proposals and projects, management and handling of resources.

For Vanessa, “in addition to financially supporting the execution of projects led by women who defend the environment, the Casa Fund’s mission also includes strengthening the performance and reach of these women’s actions. The publication Powerful Women shows where and how the support received brought transformations .”
